The NothingSacred? site is a co-operative space for questions, affirmation and discussion, with the possibility of action arranged by those contributing to the site (join up) .
The idea for this way of acting and being came in response to an initiative in 2005 by "ARM" - the Alliance of Radical Methodists - called "Keeping the Radical Voice Alive". ARM was a network of people, generally, but not exclusively, connected to the Methodist Church in Great Britain. It aimed to challenge and change people within and beyond the church, offering opportunities for radical Christians to share stories and experience, supporting and listening to one another with respect. In particular ARM looked to affirm diversity of expression of the Christian faith in dialogue with people from other churches and faiths, to raise awareness of discrimination and prejudice, and to challenge these things, especially within church structures. One expression of this was ARMPrint, a flysheet produced each day of the annual British Methodist Conference over the last thirty years as a kind of alternative `minutes of conference`. NothingSacred? follows those aims and traditions, recognising that the way information is shared and decisions are taken has changed drastically, even in the past ten years, opening up the possibility of a wider sharing of ideas and questions. With this in mind, it is intended that the website carries links and facilitates communication, enabling this sharing to be across frontiers and between different Christian voices. NothingSacred? is co-ordinated on a day to day basis by a small team, who oversee the content on behalf of members who sign up (How to get involved). Signing up as a member gives access to the members` area, where there will be discussion boards diary pages and ways of contacting the co-ordinating group and other members. Contributions to the content of the site are welcome - lead articles, ideas, questions, discussion notes about events and especially suggestions about and invitations to radical action. The co-ordinating group reserve the right to withdraw from the site anything posted which contradicts the aims and purposes, and particularity anything which is offensive to people. Those visiting the site are invited to point out content which may offend or cause harm. It is intended that the core co-ordinating group should not be fixed, but should evolve and change. Most of the co-ordination is by email, with occasional meetings where decisions of principle need to be debated. |
