NothingSacred? is a website for people who want to ask questions about God, and who want to be challenged about what they believe, say and do. It is a place for questioning things that many think to be unquestionable, not to deny God, but to find a fuller understanding of how God works within human experience. It has grown out of the experiences and convictions of the Alliance of Radical Methodists, but whoever you are we hope you will find something to stimulate and encourage you in your faith journey.

When people begin to talk about new ways of thinking and doing, somebody will say ‘is nothing sacred?’ meaning ‘surely that is too important in our ways of doing, too much part of our tradition for anyone to play around with.’ Against that, this site affirms that ‘sacred’ is about uncovering the presence of God in things and that in order to do this we need to be constantly searching, re-thinking and asking questions; re-thinking doesn’t mean denying the presence of God in things, perhaps the opposite, and that therefore nothing is too set in stone to be beyond analysis.

Is this site saying ‘everything is sacred’? No - especially in the sense that most people understand the word ‘sacred’ ie something which is holy or ‘of God’. Is war sacred? Racism? Not so – God works within these things but they do not reflect the nature of God. The question mark in the title is the key. Many things are sacred – they just might be different from those which have traditionally been defined as such.
